It’s called the SVL, and it was built in 1970. It was capable of going 160 MPH (250 kilometres per hour). It, like the very few other locomotives in this category, was abandoned because it was expensive, dangerous, and overall impractical.
Another one of these was the M-497, nicknamed the “Black Beetle” by the press. Built by the New York Central Railroad in 1966, it could go 184 MPH (296 km/h), a record that no American locomotive has beat since. It was used in lots of tests, gathering valuable data on the impact and practicality on high-speed rail…all of which was thrown away as NYC merged with its major rival Pennsylvania Railroad, who was already working with the United States Department of Transportation on the Metroliner project. M-497 had its jet engines removed, returned to regular passenger service, and was unceremoniously scrapped in 1984.
I want to comment on two of these not being safe - all the others are fine and good and cute.
Cats should never have access to reptile enclosures, even if they’re not interested in eating the herp. It’s just not good practice nor is it safe. That cat should not be in the tank with the lizard - not to mention, if it’s taking up the basking spot, the lizard might be having problems with temperature regulation.
It’s not a safe thing for animals (or people) to have prolonged contact with steam radiators. They can get too hot and cause injuries. If your cat likes to lay on them like this, install a shelf directly above it to prevent direct contact with the metal and to give them somewhere warm to hang out.
So this weekend me and my friends went to the Arkansas Anime Festival once again! So much fun~
Me: Saya Otonashi from Blood +
John (rainbowawesome): X-Wing pilot from Star Wars.
My favorite thing was people walking by John and whispering “Rebel Scum” and John just saying “I didn’t realize I was on imperial turf!” xD
